Following the attacks by armed bandits on two churches in Kurmi Wali in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, troops of the 1 Division and other security agencies have been deployed to track the perpetrators and rescue the victims that were abducted by the terrorists.
It was gathered that the troops were deployed in collaboration with community stakeholders as authorities said coordinated operations are ongoing to rescue the abducted worshippers and track down the perpetrators.
Deadly armed bandits on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at about 11:25 am, stormed Kurmi Wali and violently attacked two churches and abducted an unspecified number of Christian worshippers.
It was gathered that the assailants, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and Cherubim and Seraphim Church II in the community and fired sporadically into the air, a development that caused so much panic.
While the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) confirmed the attack, the Kaduna State Government and the Commissioner of Police debunked the claim, saying that there was no attack that took place in the community.
However, a source in the community said that the exact number of victims that were taken away to an unknown location could not be immediately ascertained as relatives of the victims and other residents were still compiling details in the aftermath of the attack.
Kurmin Wali, which is situated in a remote and forested area with challenging terrain, has limited access routes that has made rapid security response difficult.
