Coronavirus: Ighalo, United Players Undergo Tests Twice Daily

  • Eyes 50% pay-cut to stay at Old Trafford
  • Shenhua slam £15m transfer fee on him

With the English Premiership suspended until Saturday, April 4, 2020, ex-Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo and his Manchester United teammates are being tested twice daily during training for coronavirus

According to reports, Club doctors at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground are unwilling to take any risks with the virus continuing to spread across Europe and globally.

The Mirror claims that the development has led to the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men being tested when they arrive and leave the training ground.

Furthermore, United are taking other precautionary measures, with only essential first-team staff allowed to come into close contact with players.

The news comes against the backdrop of hints that United’s players were being monitored for the virus throughout their Europa League last 16 first leg encounter against LASK.

The player’s temperatures were taken at the halfway stage to make certain no-one was at risk of falling victim to the coronavirus.

In another development, sources close to Ighalo, who is already enjoying life at Old Trafford, hinted that the striker would consider taking a massive pay-cut to have a permanent Manchester United deal at the end of this season.

The 30-year-old has scored four goals in eight appearances for the Red Devils since arriving at Old Trafford on a six-month loan from Shanghai Shenhua late January.

According to the Sun, the 30-year-old is happy to take a £6m pay cut in order to make his loan move to United permanent.

The striker currently earns £240,000-a-week at Shanghai Shenhua, but reportedly wouldn’t mind taking around a 50 per cent pay cut to join United full-time.

Ighalo’s contract at the Chinese outfit runs until the start of 2021, but United have an option to buy him in the summer transfer window.

According to the Mirror, Shanghai Shenhua may be demanding about £15m from Manchester United for the former Watford striker to stay back in England.
