Corruption In Power Sector Is Devastating, Worrisome – EFCC Chairman Says
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has said that the level and extent of corruption within the power sector in Nigeria is distressing and frightening enough to bring people to tears.
Olukoyede, who stated while addressing members of the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes that visited the headquarters of the EFCC, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, made the revelation during an oversight visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, said that the happenings in the power sector were dumbfounding.
In the words of Olukyede; “As we speak, we are grappling with electricity. If you see some of the investigations we are carrying out within the power sector, you will shed tears.
“People were awarded contracts to supply electricity equipment. Instead of using what they call 9.0 guage, they will go and buy 5.0 guage.
“Every time you see the thing tripping off, it is because it gets burnt, and all of that, It falters and it collapses. It is part of our problems,” he stressed.
