Alleged Bullying: FG Suspends 13 Students Of FGC, Enugu

BY NGOZI NWANKWO, ABUJA – Following a disturbing bullying incident in which an SS1 student was seriously assaulted by a group of students, the Federal Ministry of Education, has moved decisively to address safety concerns at the Federal Government College (FGC), Enugu, Nigeria.

The Ministry under the supervision of Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, quickly established a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter.

Based on the findings of the panel, the Ministry wielded the big stick by announcing the immediate suspension of 13 students found to have been involved in the incident pending the further outcome of investigations.

This was as security measures have been increased at the school, with the Ministry directing the School-Based Management Committee to work with law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation, including examining potential external affiliations.

The Ministry is also focusing on providing counselling and rehabilitation support to address underlying issues with a view to reintegrate students into a positive school environment.

Speaking on the matter, Dr Alausa emphasised the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, including parents, school authorities, and security agencies to create a secure atmosphere for students to learn and thrive.

This proactive approach demonstrated the Ministry’s commitment towards ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment in federal schools across the country.
