Former Minister of Information and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend disassociated himself from the Biafra Zionist Federation headed by Barr. Benjamin Onwuka at the weekend
According to a press statement signed by his Special Assistant (Political), Adakole Ijogi, and made available to Forefront, “We received with utter dismay and incongruity the recent press release and media report purportedly appointing Prof. Jerry Gana, CON as Minister in the cabinet of a certain Biafra Zionist Federation by one Barr. Benjamin Onwuka.
“Prof. Jerry Gana wishes to resolutely dissociate himself from both the so-called Biafra Zionist Federation and its activities. Prof. Gana remains very loyal and firmly committed to the integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigerian. We wish to re-state very clearly that, Prof. Gana, and our people, are too much in love with the Federal Republic of Nigeria to contemplate allegiance to any other nation, real or imaginary.
“While he appreciates the strong desires of some compatriots for greater inclusion, fairness, justice, and equitable development, Prof. Gana remains strongly of the view that a transformed, balanced and united Federal Republic of Nigeria is a far better and sustainable solution than disintegration into small nation-states.”
The leader of the Biafra Zionist Federation had on Monday July 31, 2017 announced that Biafra has seceded from Nigeria. Onwuka, who spoke to newsmen at the Enugu secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, said the announcement takes effect from August 1, 2017 to mark their independence.
Onwuka had also declared himself, the interim President of Biafra, just as he hinted that his administration was an interim one, adding that he had the backing of the USA.
Onwuka also announced some key members of the interim government’s cabinet that included some of the prominent Nigerians. Among them are Prof. Pat Utomi, who was named the foreign minister, and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, named as the Governor of the Central Bank of Biafra.
Also appointed as minister were Ms. Arunma Oteh, who was to head Finance; Chief Nnia Nwodo, who was appointed the Ambassador of the Republic of Biafra to the United States; former Minister of Information, Prof. Gana was appointed to take charge of Transport. Another former Minister of Information and former Nasarawa State governorship candidate in 2015 on the platform of the Labour Party, Mr. Labaran Maku, was named as the Minister of Aviation.
