Typically of the age-long popular Biblical saying that ‘your sins will find you out’, two officials of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mohammed Adamu and Okoro Eunice Udokanmma, have been convicted by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over forged tax documents.

Charged to court with falsification of tax documents, Justice Inyang Ekwo on Wednesday found both defendants guilty on the five counts contained in the charge marked: FHCABJ/CR/86/2010.

According to Justice Ekwo, the prosecution sufficiently proved its case against the defendants through its six witnesses and several exhibits tendered, ruling that Adamu was convicted Adamu on counts 1,2, 3, 4, and 5 and sentenced to three months in relation to count 1 and one year in relation to each of the other four counts.

However, all the sentences are to run concurrently beginning from April 27, 2022.

On her part, Eunice Udokanmma was convicted on counts 1, 3, 4, and 5 and sentenced to three months on count one and one year on the other counts, effective from April 13, 2010, having earlier served two years in jail.

Both convicts were sentenced for falsifying Personal Income Tax (PIT) clearance certificates for some individuals and organisations.
