COVID-19: Bauchi Dep Gov, Senator Tela Tests Positive, Goes Into Isolation
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State Senator Baba Tela has been confirmed positive for COVID-19 disease.
Accordingly, Senator Tela, who is also the State Chairman of the Rapid Response Taskforce Committee on COVID-19 and Lassa Fever, has been moved to the isolation centre for the commencement of treatment and management by medical personnel,
This was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Comrade Muktar Gidado in which he explained that the sample of the Deputy Governor was taken when there was noticeable exhibition of the symptoms on him which came out positive as confirmed by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
Gidado also said that the Deputy Governor got infected with the virus in the course of discharging his duty as the Chairman of the State Rapid Response TaskForce Committee on COVID-19 and Lassa Fever, an assignment he noted exposed him to the risk of the infection.
He said; “Senator Baba Tela has since gone into isolation and is being looked after by professional medical personnel just as samples of all his primary contacts have been taken for tests too and were equally advised to self-isolate themselves pending the outcome of the tests.
Meanwhile, Governor Bala Abdulkadir has commiserated with his Deputy for getting infected with the virus and solicited for prayers from the people of state for the speedy recovery of all those infected by the virus.
The Governor also advised citizens of the State to adhere strictly to laid down medical protocols against the virus in order to curtail its spread among members of the public.
Deputy Governor Tela has been visibly absent from public functions in the past few weeks after he returned from Azare where he had gone to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the area following some mysterious deaths in the area.
On Saturday, May 30, 2020 during the one year anniversary Media chat held at the Command Guest House, Bauchi, the Governor had apologized on behalf of the Deputy for his unavoidable absence from the event announcing that Baba Tela had taken ill.
