BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – Almost one month after the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the first case of corona virus in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally yielded to pressure to address the nation on the raging global health threat.

The national broadcast is scheduled to come on stream today, Sunday, March 29, 2020 by 7pm.

Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, stated this in a statement released Sunday afternoon in Abuja.

According to Adesina: “President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 7pm.

“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast.”

The President has been under intense pressure from many Nigerians, including the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to address the nation, like world leaders, on the COVID-19 pandemic for which Nigeria has so far recorded 97 confirmed cases with one official death reported by NCDC.
