BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – A traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, has joined other well-meaning Nigerians to appeal to both the Federal and State governments to help alleviate the hardship being experienced by the people as a result of the COVID-19 lock down in the country.

The traditional ruler, who is the Sangarin Shabu of Lafia, Alhaji Umar Mamud Bwalla II, told journalists in his palace that the appeal became necessary considering the level of most Nigerians whose only means of survival is based on daily income.
Bwalla said that the partial restriction instituted is already having some negative impact on the people and could get worse during the total lockdown that will bring about serious adverse effect.
The traditional ruler said that his subjects have fully complied with the directives from government and other related agencies on the need to keep personal
hygiene and observe all necessary rules.
According to him; “Our subjects have fully complied but they are worried that their savings might not be able to sustain them. So, we are appealing that the government should provide them with some incentives to cushion the effect.”
Bwalla equally appealed to the well to do in the society to consider helping the communities as government alone cannot carry the whole responsibility.
He also enjoined individuals, political office holders and other agencies to come to the aid of the low income earners in the society, adding that neighbors who have enough should help others because this is the time they need them the most.
