• Reports 12,373 patients’ recovery

  • Fatality toll now 684 deaths

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says Nigeria’s coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 30,000 mark with 460 new infections reported countrywide late on Wednesday night.

According to the NCDC, latest figures showed that Nigeria now has a total of 30,249 cases with the virus taking 15 lives in the last 24 hours.

Statistics on the Centre’s official twitter handle indicated that the total fatality figure has now risen to 684 deaths in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since the country recorded the virus index case in March 2020.

“On the 8th of July 2020, 460 new confirmed cases and 15 deaths were recorded in Nigeria”, the NCDC reported.

Obviously, with all the 36 states having reported confirmed virus infections, the NCDC’s popular chant of “no new state reported a case in the last 24 hours”, is no longer relevant.

On the the whole, the Centre said: “Till date, 30249 cases have been confirmed, 12373 cases have been discharged and 684 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”

For the 460 new cases reported from 21 states of the federation in the last 24 hours, Lagos maintained its leading position with (150) cases; Rivers – (49); Oyo – (43); Delta – (38); FCT – (26); Anambra – (20); Kano – (20); and Plateau – (18)

Others listed on the Centre’s are: Edo – (14); Bayelsa – (13); Enugu – (13); Osun – (12); Kwara – (10); Borno – (8); Ogun – (7); Kaduna – (6); Imo – (4); Bauchi – (3); Gombe – (3); Niger -;(2); and Adamawa – (1)
