COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 12 Deaths, 296 New Infections In 24 Hours

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that 12 COVID-19 related deaths and about 296 new infections were recorded nationwide in the past 24 hours.

According to its latest update published on Tuesday morning, the Disease Control agency said that the new infections were reported in 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The NCDC stated thus; “On the 27th of September 2021, 296 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 204,752 cases have been confirmed, 192,951 cases have been treated and discharged and 2,690 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

Offering a breakdown of the 296 new cases reported from 15 states of the Federation, the Centre explained that these included Rivers – (63), Lagos – (49), FCT – (47), Osun – (37), Edo – (29), Plateau – (18), and Gombe – (14).

Also listed among cases confirmed by the Centre are; Nasarawa – (12), Delta – (10), Benue – (5), Kano – (5), Bayelsa – (3), Oyo – (2), Bauchi – (1), and Ekiti – (1).

The public health agency  also stated that a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities

Furthermore, the NCDC put the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country at 9,111, adding that over 2.9 million samples have been tested for the virus out of Nigeria’s over 200 million population.

Meanwhile, official statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicate that globally, as of September 27, 2021, there have been 231,703,120 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with the fatality figures at 4,746,620 deaths.

WHO’s records also showed that a total of 5,924,819,985 vaccine doses have been administered worldwide.
