COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 1,270 New Cases
Tally now 102,601; 1373 deaths
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) warns that the numbers continue to rise daily with its confirmation late Tuesday that 1,270 new cases of COVID-19 came from 22 states across the country
The latest figures has now taken the tally of infections nationwide to 102,601 cases with 12 deaths reported on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.
Reporting on its official Twitter handle, the NCDC said; “On the 12th of January 2021, 1270 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.”
According to the disease outfit; “Till date, 102,601 cases have been confirmed, 81,574 cases have been discharged and 1373 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
It further reported that of the 1270 new cases confirmed from 22 states of the federation on the day, Lagos as usual led with 435 cases followed by FCT – (234), Oyo – (103), Plateau – (86), Rivers – (71) and Enugu – (51)
Other states listed with double digits include: Nasarawa – (41), Delta – (39), Edo – (39), Osun – (33), Niger – (31), Sokoto – (23), Ondo – (16), Taraba – (13), Ebonyi – (12), and Kano – (10).
States captured by NCDC on the single digit figure are: Abia – (9), Bayelsa – (8), Bauchi – (7), Imo – (5), Katsina – (3) and Gombe – (1)
However, the NCDC expressed concerns that the average number of daily #COVID19 cases in the first week of January 2021, was higher than cases recorded in last week of December 2020 and therefore urged Nigerians thus; “#Take Responsibility to protect yourself and those around you”
