COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 1,301 New Infections
As Nigeria’s tally reaches 113,305 cases; 1,464 deaths
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday confirmed 1,301 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections, with the nationwide tally now rising to 113,305 cases.
This is as the nation’s disease outfit disclosed its discharges on January 19, 2021 include 702 community recoveries in Lagos State, 157 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 143 in Plateau State.
Explaining that the cases were all managed in line with existing COVID-19 guidelines and protocols, NCDC further said; “On the 19th of January 2021, 1301 new confirmed cases and 15 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.”
Additional reports on its official Twitter handle indicated that; “Till date, 113,305 cases have been confirmed, 91,200 cases have been discharged and 1,464 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
Giving a breakdown of the 1,301 new cases confirmed from 22 states of the federation, NCDC listed the following: Lagos – (551), FCT – (209), Oyo – (83), Plateau – (65), Kaduna – (64), Enugu – (61), and Rivers – (44).
Also recording cases in double digits include: Ondo – (39), Benue – (37), Akwa Ibom – (31), Kano – (19), Delta – (18), Gombe – (18), Ogun – (16), Edo – (15), and Kebbi – (10).
Similarly, the six states captured on NCDC’s single digit list are: Ebonyi – (9), Jigawa – (4), Osun – (3), Zamfara – (3), Borno – (1) and Nasarawa – (1)
It was also reported on its website that with support from UNICEF, @gavi and other partners, the @NCDCgov has activated a short code – “6232”, for public enquiries.
“This means that you can contact NCDC’s Connect Centre and access verified information about #COVID19 and other infectious diseases.📞Calls are free!”, the Centre said
