COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 1,624 New Infections
- Nationwide tally reaches 137,654 cases
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday confirmed 1,624 new cases of COVID-19 with the countrywide tally of infections rising to 137,654.
The disease outfit also disclosed on its official Twitter handle that; “Our discharges today include 831 community recoveries in Lagos State and 85 in Kaduna State” fully managed in line with existing health guidelines and protocols.
It further stated that; “On the 5th of February 2021, 1624 new confirmed cases and 9 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 137,654 cases have been confirmed, 111,639 cases have been discharged and 1,641 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
According to NCDC, of the 1,624 new cases reported from 23 states of the federation, Lagos recorded (535) cases with Plateau at (183), Osun – (98), Akwa Ibom – (85), FCT – (83), Ondo – (77) and Nasarawa – (72).
Other states on the lists include: Edo – (69), Oyo – (63), Rivers – (52), Taraba – (48), Ogun – (44), Borno – (31), Kwara – (31), Ekiti – (30), Benue – (25), Kano – (21), Niger – (21), Kaduna – (18), Abia – (15), Delta – (10), Bayelsa – (7) and Zamfara – (6).
The Centre also said that; “In 8 months, we @NCDCgov have built and equipped 4 Infectious Disease Care Centres across the country with 12 others at various stages of development
“We want to come out of this #COVID19 pandemic better prepared than we were at the start.”
The NCDC while expressing gratitude “for continued support from states”, however admitted thus; “We sometimes experience difficulties in identifying contacts because some clients refuse to provide the required information.”
