COVID-19: NCDC Records Spiralling Infections At 100,087, Confirms 1,024 New Cases

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Confirmation that the second wave of COVID-19 is taking roots in the country came on strong late Sunday night with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reporting 1,024 new cases of the deadly virus.

The figure now brings the total infections in the country to 100,087 with reports of eight deaths on the day.

Statistics available on the NCDC official website confirmed the fresh reports thus; “On the 10th of January 2021, 1024 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.”

According to the disease outfit; “Till date, 10,0087 cases have been confirmed, 80,030 cases have been discharged and 1,358 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”

On further breakdown of the 1,024 new cases reported from 17 states of the federation, NCDC gave the numbers as follows: Lagos – (653), Plateau – (63), Benue – (48), Zamfara – (45), FCT – (42), Rivers – (27), and Ondo – (26)

Also listed are: Adamawa – (26), Kaduna – (22), Edo – (18), Ogun – (16), Imo – (12), Kano – (9), Yobe – (6), Ekiti – (5), Jigawa – (4) and Osun – (2).

Offering further details on work done as at Sunday, January 10, 2021, NCDC said; “Our discharges today includes 253 community recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines.”

It however warned that the “#COVID19 pandemic is not over, but the availability of vaccines will bring us closer to controlling the acute phase of this pandemic.”
