BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday shelved his broadcast to the nation and directed members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, to work closely with State governors to engender better harmony in the daunting task of checking the pandemic.

The President, who announced this during an online meeting with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, said that the PTF already briefed him on next steps in the national response to the pandemic, stressing that he has directed that they work very closely with the Governors.

Buhari noted that the pandemic is beyond “technology, power, and resources,” adding that countries that have all those, were recording highest casualties round the world.

In the words of the President; “We have to be very careful. We need to continue to educate and persuade the people to accept the reality of the situation, and do all that is necessary to stay safe”.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the meeting also discussed economic and security issues, among others, adding that the Governors commended the President on the “leadership and direction” he has given the country in combating COVID-19.
