- Seeks strict adherence to agreement
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Contractors handling part of the 2500 housing units project across Bauchi state have been challenged to ensure strict adherence to existing contractual agreements, particularly in ensuring they impact positively on the host communities.
The District Head of Miri, Malam Hussaini Abubakar, made the call while officially handing over the site to the contractors, Blue Sea Nigerian Limited and Borealise Nigerian Limited in Bauchi.
About 1,500 units of the houses are slated for construction at Dungal, a suburb of the Bauchi metropolis
Signing the handover papers on behalf of community members along with the contractors at the project site in Dungal, Mallam Abubakar explained that being an agreement, the concerned parties must honour the binding nature of the document.
The traditional ruler said; “In essence, the agreement has a legal enforceability which is said to be a contract,” adding that the parties’ consent is said to be free when not “influenced by coercion, undue influence, fraud, misrepresentation and mistake”.
“Therefore, you should know that competency refers to the capacity of the parties to enter into the contract,” the royal father said, even as he urged the contractors to shun the tendency of abusing the contractual agreement agreed upon between them and the state government.
The District Head, who noted that the project will boost the socio-economic development of Dungal and the state in general, pleaded with the contractors to accord community members the privilege of supplying some of the building materials required at the site.
While also canvassing that the community members be engaged as the workforce during construction,” Mallam Abubakar however appealed to the community members, especially those whose land is part of the site to exercise more patients as they would be properly compensated.
He also assured the communities that State government is processing their compensation for payment soon, even as he appreciated the government for choosing Miri District Area to host the 1,500 units.
According to him, the housing project is highly appreciated by the people as it will further develop the area into an urban centre.
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed had few months ago flagged off the construction of 2,500 housing units across the State being handled by the consortium of Messrs Blue Sea Nigerian Limited and Borealise Nigerian Limited.
