COVID-19: Governor Ganduje Slashes Salaries of Political Office Holders By 50%
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has directed that all political office holders in Kano state should be paid half of their monthly salary with effect from May, 2020.
Ganduje said the development followed the shortfall in the federation account and collapse in the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the State occasioned by COVID-19 challenges,
He lamented that due to shortfall in the price of Oil in the global market which ha affected world economy and eventually caused serious shortfall in the federation account for states, the Kano State government resolved to slash the salary of all political office holders by 50 percent.
Ganduje further said; “There is also a serious setback in the IGR due to COVID-19 pandemic challenges. Almost all companies in the state are no longer in operation due to lockdown, so also other areas where the state gets revenue, are no longer operational.”
These were contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar in which he explained that the above reasons formed the basis for slashing the salary of political office holders by half.
Anwar said that the salary slash include the Governor, the Deputy Governor, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants among others.
The statement further said that at the Local Government level, those affected include Chairmen, Deputy Chairmen, elected Councillors, Supervisory Councillors, Advisers and Secretaries of Local Governments.
