- 518 deaths nationwide
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA –Nigeria’s coronavirus (COVID-19) confirmed infection figures jumped to 20,244 cases on Sunday night as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 436 fresh cases in the country.
With Cross River still holding on as the only the State without an officially reported COVID-19 case in the country, 12 deaths were recorded nationwide in the last 24 hours.
The Centre further announced on its official Twitter handle that with the latest development, the fatality figure now stands at 518 deaths across 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In what has become its usual refrain, the NCDC said; “On the 21st of June 2020, 436 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
“Till date, 20244 cases have been confirmed, 6879 cases have been discharged and 518 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
The NCDC said of the 436 new confirmed cases that were recorded in 19 states, Lagos had the highest number with 169 new cases; Oyo State placed second after recording 52 new infections while Plateau settled in third position with 31 cases.
Going further with the breakdown, the Centre said also listed on its daily chart are: Imo – (29), Kaduna – (28), Ogun – (23), FCT – (18), Enugu – (18), Bauchi – (17), and Bayelsa – (14).
Others include: Rivers – Eight (8), Osun – Six (6), Kano – Six (6), Edo – Five (5), Benue – Five (5), Adamawa – Three (3), Borno – Two (2), Abia – One (1), and Ekiti – One (1)
