COVID-19 Update: NCDC Records 386 New Cases, Nigeria’s Tally Reaches 3912
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The growing health concerns about community spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic heightened on Friday as Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 386 new cases with the total figure rising to 3912 confirmed cases nationwide.
Uploading the latest figures on its official Twitter handle late Friday night, NCDC said with no new state reporting any confirmed case, the country however witnessed 10 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The report also indicated that of the confirmed cases, 679 people infected with the virus have so far recovered and discharged from the isolation centres and accredited hospitals.
However, the reports acknowledged that 117 have sadly lost their lives to the virus across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since March when the first index case was reported in the country.
In giving a breakdown of the 386 fresh cases reported from 20 states, the NCDC credited Lagos with 176 cases followed by Kano – 65; Katsina – 31; and FCT – 20.
Others are Borno – 17; Bauchi – 15; Nasarawa – 14; Ogun – 13; Plateau – 10; Oyo, Sokoto and Rivers, all have four (4) cases each; Kaduna – three (3); Edo, Ebonyi and Ondo have two (2) cases each while four states, Enugu, Imo, Gombe and Osun, all reported one (1) case each.
In the meantime, the NCDC has continued to advise Nigerians on the preventive measures against the coronavirus, even as it stressed the importance of physical distancing; frequent hand washing, and wearing of face mask in public places
These precautionary measures and other issues, including support for states, are amplified daily by the Centre in some of its tweets captured below:

“In the last 3 years, we’ve supported states in establishing Emergency Operations Centres, rapidly scaled up lab capacity and provided other resources for health security at the state level. These resources are now being used for the #COVID19 response”

“One of the mandates in the Act establishing @NCDCgov is for us to support all states in preventing, preparing for, detecting and responding to infectious disease outbreaks. While #COVID19 has been unprecedented, we’ve not relented in our support”
