COVID-19 Update: NCDC Records 476 New Cases, Tally Now 50,964
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 476 new infections of coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the tally of confirmed cases to 50,964 nationwide.
This is as latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University indicate that globally, COVID-19 infection cases now stand at 22,526,192 with fatality number at 790,475 deaths while recoveries have risen to 14,387,740 cases.
According to the NCDC’s figures captured on its verified Twitter handle @NCDCgov late on Thursday night, seven (7) deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
It also said the number of recoveries have also risen to 37,569 cases while the total deaths are 992 across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Centre’s highlights showed thus: “On the 20th of August 2020, 476 new confirmed cases and 7 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 50,964 cases have been confirmed, 37,569 cases have been discharged and 992 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
For the breakdown of 476 new cases reported from 18 states of the Federation, Lagos returned to lead the chart of daily infections with 235 cases. followed by FCT with 44, Kaduna – (41), Borno – (33), Plateau – (28) and Abia – (13)
Other reported cases are: Edo – (13), Rivers – (12), Imo – (11), Oyo – (10), Kano – (9), Kwara – (7), Enugu – (5), Katsina – (5), Gombe – (4), Ogun – (4), Nasarawa – (1) and Zamfara – (1)
