COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 288 New Cases, Tally Now 44,129
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday night listed 288 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, taking the country’s confirmed infection tally to 44,129.
The NCDC explained on its verified Twitter handle that besides the freshly reported cases, eight deaths were officially confirmed in the last 24 hours with the nationwide fatality figure now put at 896 deaths.
However, the cheering news, according to the NCDC is that of the 44,129 nationally confirmed figure, 20,663 cases have been successfully treated and discharged from the various isolation centers and hospitals across the country.
The highlights of COVID-19 statistics published by NCDC stated thus: “On the 3rd of August 2020, 288 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 44,129 cases have been confirmed, 20,663 cases have been discharged and 896 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Similarly, the Centre gave a breakdown of the 288 new cases that came in from 15 states ass follows: Lagos – (88), Kwara – (33), Osun – (27), FCT – (25), Enugu – (25) and Abia (20)
Also appearing on the daily infections’ chart are: Kaduna – (17), Plateau – (13), Rivers – (13), Delta – (10), Gombe – (8), Ogun – (4), Oyo – (3), Katsina – (1) and Bauchi – (1)
On the global stage, reports said since December 31. 2019 till late on Monday, August 3, 2020, over 18 million cases have been confirmed
Latest figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) indicated 18,056,310 cases of COVID-19 worldwide.
The numbers are “in accordance with the applied case definitions and testing strategies in the affected countries”, even as the reported fatality figure is now put at 689 219 deaths.
