COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 417 New Infections, Tally Reaches 49,485 Cases

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Nigeria on Monday night recorded 417 new infections of Coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the countrywide total figure to 49,485 cases

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), of this tally, 36,834 patients have been treated and discharged from different isolation centres, hospitals and homes across the 36 states of the federation.

The Centre said in a tweet on its official handle that with two (2) deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the fatality figure in Nigeria has now risen to 977 deaths.

Delivering highlights of the statistics, the NCDC said; “On the 17th of August 2020, 417 new confirmed cases and 2 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

“Till date, 49,485 cases have been confirmed, 36,834 cases have been discharged and 977 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

It further stated that of the 417 new cases reported from 17 states, Lagos State had the highest number of cases on Monday, with 207 cases with Kaduna and Ondo states coming distant second and third with 44 cases and 38 cases respectively.

Other states captured on the daily infection chart are: Abia – (28), Anambra – (21), Plateau – (20), Bauchi – (13), Oyo – (9), Ebonyi – (9), Delta – (7), Edo – (7), Enugu – (6), Niger – (3), Gombe – (2), Ogun – (1), FCT – (1) and Kano – (1)
