BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday confirmed 79 new infections of coronavirus (COVID-19) with the country’s total now rising to 56,256 cases.

By the NCDC’s presentations on its verified Twitter handle @NCDCgov, the numbers of daily new cases and new hospitalizations have continued to trend downward from the peak witnessed between April and August 2020.
Displaying the latest numbers, the Centre said four deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours as the fatality figure rose to 1082 deaths nationwide.
Highlights of events on the day by NCDC showed that; “On the 13th of September 2020, 79 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.
“Till date, 56,256 cases have been confirmed, 44,152 cases have been discharged and 1,082 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Accordingly, a breakdown of the 79 new cases reported from 13 states of the federation indicated thus: Lagos (30), Kaduna (17), Ogun (7), Anambra (5), Kano (4), and Katsina (3).
Others captured on the daily infection chart by NCDC are: FCT (3), Akwa Ibom (3), Oyo (2), Rivers (2), Delta (1), Plateau (1) and Ondo (1).
