COVID-19 Update: Nigeria Records 146 New Cases, Tally Now 4,787

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday confirmed that Nigeria recorded six new deaths from coronavirus (COVID-19), thereby bringing the total number of fatalities to 158 nationwide.

This is as the Centre also stated that 146 new cases were reported as at late Tuesday, May 12, 2020 with the country’s tally of infections rising to 4,787 confirmed cases

With no new state reporting a case in the last 24 hours, the NCDC said; “On the 12th of May 2020, 146 new confirmed cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria”.

According to figures captured on its official website, NCDC said with about 28,418 samples so far tested in ongoing fight to contain the deadly virus, 3,670 cases are still active while 959 cases have been treated and discharged from different isolation centres and accredited hospitals across the country.

Of the 146 new cases reported from 20 states in the last 24 hours, the NCDC also said Lagos recorded the highest number of  (57); Kano – (27); Kwara – (10); Edo – Nine (9); and Bauchi – Eight (8).

Others are: Yobe – Seven (7); Kebbi and Oyo – Four (4) cars each; Katsina and Niger – Three (3) cases each; Plateau, Borno, Benue and Sokoto – Two (2) each; with Gombe, Enugu, Ebonyi, Ogun, Rivers and FCT recording one (1) case each
