COVID-19 Update: Nigeria’s Tally Hits 4151 Cases With 239 New Ones

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Nigeria recorded 239 new cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across 15 states on Saturday, May 9, 2020, thereby bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 4151 persons.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said of the 249 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours, Lagos had 97 while Bauchi, Kano and Katsina states recorded 44; 29; and 19 cases respectively.

According to figures captured on the NCDC’s official Twitter handle late Saturday night, Borno has 17; FCT – Seven (7); Kwara – Six (6); Oyo – (5); Kaduna and Sokoto – Three (3) each; Adamawa, Kebbi, Plateau and Ogun – Two (2) cases each; while Ekiti completes the roll call with one (1) case

The NCDC said as at close of business on May 9, Nigeria’s health officials have successfully treated and discharged 745 patients from different isolation centres and accredited hospitals nationwide.

However, latest reports also confirmed that the number of fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours stood at 11 deaths, which brings the tally to 128 deaths in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Overall, with no new State reporting any COVID-19 case on Saturday, the test samples carried out so far across the country have now risen to 23,835 with active figure of 3,278 cases.
