BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Figures released by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) late Friday night indicate new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to rise in the country with 627 new infections taking the tally to 15,181 cases nationwide.
Though the fatality figure rose to 399 deaths across 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the NCDC reports that 4,891 cases have been successfully treated and discharged from the various isolation centres.
According to statistics captured on the Centre’s website; “On the 12th of June 2020, 627 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.”
“Till date, 15181 cases have been confirmed, 4891 cases have been discharged and 399 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory”, the NCDC said.
It further reported that of the 627 new cases reported from 23 states in the Federation, Lagos still remains the epicentre of the virus with 229 new cases reported.
Others on the list include: FCT – (65); Abia – (54); Borno – (42); Oyo – (35); Rivers – (28); Edo – (28); Gombe – (27); Ogun – (21); Plateau and Delta – (18) each; with Bauchi and Kaduna – (10) cases each.
Also listed by the NCDC are: Benue – Nine (9); Ondo – Eight (8); Kwara – Six (6); Nasarawa and Enugu – Four (4) cases each; Sokoto, Niger and Kebbi – Three (3) cases each, while Yobe and Kano have one (1) case each.
