- Says, it’s Jihad against Christians
The Christian Rights Agenda (CRA) has expressed serious concerns over a hatched plot to force the female Christian Vice Chairman of Fufure Local Government Council, Mrs. Peace Audu to resign her position.
The CRA noted that the plot was hatched in order to stop her from being sworn in as the substantive chairman following the death of the Muslim Chairman, Mr. Shuaibu Babas over a week ago.
It specifically said that all facts considered, the flagrant violation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must be condemned, stressing that it views the present action to prevent the swearing-in of a Christian female Vice Chairman as part of an organised assault against Christendom in Northern Nigeria.
CRA further said the deliberate refusal to swear-in Mrs. Audu more than 24 hours after the death of the Chairman breaches the letters and provisions of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
These were contained in a statement by Reverend Kallamu Musa Dikwa, Secretary General of the CRA in which he stressed that by law, Mrs Peace Audu, who was elected as Vice Chairman in 2024 with Mr. Babas as Chairman respectively, should have been sworn in within 24 hours of the demise of the late chairman.
Reverend Musa noted that up to the time of issuing this statement, the Adamawa State Government under a Muslim Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has refused to swear her in.
The CRA said it gathered authoritatively that some powerful Muslim leaders in the state, including the newly installed Emir of Fufure, Alhaji Muhammadu Sani Ahmadu Ribadu have vowed that a Christian cannot be made Chairman of the local government.
The CRA said the position of some highly placed persons in the Local Government Area, informed the decision to halt her swearing in.
The CRA said it is worrisome and difficult to understand why in a state with about 70 percent Christians, a female Christian is being denied her rightful position of becoming Local Government chairman because of her religion.
It therefore called on the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Lateeff Fagbemi (SAN), to intervene and stop this brazen violation of the Constitution.
The CRA further said; “We equally call on the Christian community in Adamawa state to stand in solidarity with our sister who is being denied her rightful position.
“The only mortal ’sin’ she has committed is her religion. CRA believes that majority of humans did not chose the faith they profess and it will be a crime against humanity to attempt to victimise one another.
“We see this as part of the Islamisation agenda where every important position of government is to be taken over by a Muslim,” it said.
CRA also called on the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to be proactive in defending Christianity and Christians from the northern part of the country who are facing persecution daily.
