BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Trouble is brewing in the factional All Progressives Congress (APC) G-7 group in Kano State over allegations of betrayal of trust by its leadership headed former governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

Some of the G-7 members are accusing Senator Shekarau, who represents Kano Central Senatorial district at the National Assembly, of secret moves to reconcile with Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in pursuit of a selfish agenda ahead of 2023 general elections.

Inside sources hinted that accusations are being thrown at Mallam Shekarau that in a bid to enjoy a smooth return to the Senate next year, he has allegedly held a series of secret meetings with the State Governor in total disregard of the goals and objectives of the G-7 group.

One of the insiders conversant with the activities and affairs of the factional APC presided over by Senator Shekarau said most members are currently agitated over the claims that they are being carried along after sacrificing so much time, energy and resources for the project.

The insider, preferring anonymity, further claimed that one of the G-7 group’s arrow heads, Senator Barau Jibrin had to openly confront Mallan Shekarau at a meeting over what some members described as a “betrayal of trust” at a time they are still pursuing their appeal at the Supreme Court.

It was reliably gathered that Senator Shekarau has denied the allegations saying it is the handiwork of mischief makers out to cause disaffection and hoping to break the G-7 ranks in pursuit of their selfish agenda.

At present, the former governor as leader of the G-7 APC, alongside Senator Barau Jibrin, House of Representatives member, Shaaban Sharada and four others are in court against Governor Ganduje over the APC primaries that led to the emergence of two factional leaders, Ahmadu Zago and Abdullahi Abbas.

Interestingly, the G-7 group had the upper hand against Governor Ganduje at a Federal High Court where the judge ruled that the Shekarau factional leadership was authentic.

However, arising from his appeal on the case, the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja reversed the judgement and ruled in favour of Governor Ganduje’s faction, thereby making Abdullahi Abbas the authentic chairman of APC in Kano State.

But dissatisfied with this outcome, the G-7 faction has approached the Supreme Court seeking its intervention to upturn the Appeal Court’s verdict.
