The Situation Room made up of over 70 civil society groups observing the election process, called on the INEC to provide a clear explanation to Nigerians on what went wrong and steps taken to avert re-occurrence.

The groups insisted that the Commission needs to explain to Nigerians how they would be able to address the extra financial and logistics burden that has occasioned.

The Situation Room expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment meted out to members of the National Youth Corps (NYSC), and other ad-hoc staff recruited by INEC for the elections.

The groups therefore called on INEC and all Nigerians to reach out to these youths and provide support necessary to keep them properly fed and safe.

Nwankwo further said; “In a period of uncertainties, fake news and hate speech could be destabilising. We urged for restraint and call on all stakeholders to refrain from misinformation and inciting comments that are capable of undermining peace and security.

“INEC must take steps to hold persons responsible for this unfortunate events especially with respect to the polls, collation and enforcement of rules.

“There is no doubt that this postponement has imposed unforeseen financial and logistics burden on political parties, candidates, business and the generality of Nigerians.”

The Situation Room also said it will continue to closely watch the process and take needed steps to support the conduct of credible elections in Nigeria.

The Situation Room convener said; “We will continue to work towards successful elections in the country. Nigerians should not give up. We urge all eligible voters to come out and cast their votes.”
