Dapchi Girls: Police Deploy 2,000 To North-east Schs
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – As part of measures to protect public schools in the North-east, the Police high command has approved the deployment of about 2,000 armed policemen to schools in the region.
The personnel will be deployed to the more than 300 schools in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States to enhance security of students and teachers in schools.
A dependable source at the Force headquarters said on condition of anonymity that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, would soon embark on appraisal visits to the North-east during which he is expected to visit the schools as well as access the performance of policemen.
The source told PRNigeria that the IGP will also visit Dapchi community in Yobe State to commiserate with their families of the 110 abducted girls.
It was gathered that the IGP would hold meetings with various stakeholders engaging in the fight against Boko Haram with a view to support them.
Idris will also interact with top government officials, community leaders and traditional rulers as part of efforts to strengthen synergy in the campaign against insurgency.
In spite of the relocation of an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), to Maiduguri to compliment the military efforts to rescue the Dapchi abducted school girls from Boko Haram, after returning from medical vacation, the IGP deems it necessary to go to the North-east and see things for himself.
The source further said; “I want to reassure Nigerians that the IGP is committed to his primary mandate of protecting lives and properties from all parts of the country.”
Similarly, it was also confirmed that the Commander General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Abdullahi Gana; the Comptroller Generl of Immigration Service, Mr Muhammad Babandede; and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Prison Service, Mr Jaafaru Ahmed have visited the North-east sequel to the directives from the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd).
