The Senate on Thursday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce the results of the June 12, 1993 presidential election that was annulled by the then Military President, Ibrahim Babangida.
This is coming on the heels of last Wednesday’s declaration by President Muhammadu Buhari that June 12 will now substitute May 29 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day, in honour of late MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of that election.
The Senate made the request during its plenary with an overwhelming yes vote by Senators.
President Buhari had explained that June 12 was more symbolic than May 29 and also conferred a posthumous GCFR title on Abiola.
