The Nigeria police on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, arrested the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi.
His arrest followed a court order issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, directing security agencies to immediately arrest Adeyemi, accused of running a fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Umar gave the order following the failure of Adeyemi to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Counsel to the Police, Wisdom Madaki made the oral application for the warrant when the case with number FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025, was called and none of the defendants was present.
Adeyemi’s legal counsel, Genesis Francis, told the court that his client is afraid for his life and had written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Justice Umar however, responded that the court would “help him to stay alive” and therefore directed that all security agencies should arrest Adeyemi anywhere he is sighted.
The court then adjourned the matter to September 30, 2026.
Following a petition by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila to both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police over alleged forged presidential documents, the police first arrested Adeyemi on October 27, 2025 at an office in the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.
The police filed the charges on November 27, 2025 and listed witnesses to include Gbajabiamila, officials of the Accountant General’s Office, and others allegedly linked to the operation of the fake agency.
The Presidency later said that investigators recovered fake appointment letters, letterheads and evidence of 34 bank accounts, including 9 in the names of non-existent government bodies.
The PFIPC scandal drew fresh attention after it emerged that an entity with a similar name was listed in the 2026 Appropriation Act with a ₦1.3 billion provision.
President Tinubu on July 7, 2026, directed the ICPC to investigate the entire issues surrounding the PFIPC.
