DHQ Moves To Unravel Seaman Abbas Haruna’s Detention Saga

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has promised to speedily unravel the circumstances surrounding the purported unjust incarceration of a Naval rating, Seaman Abbas Haruna, for over six years.

Consequently, the DHQ said it has taken judicious notice of a video clip currently circulating in the social media with Nigerians demanding justice for Haruna.

Reacting to the clips, Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said the Defence headquarters will leave no stone unturned by carrying out thorough investigations on the matter with its outcome made Public.

General Gusau also assured that justice would be upheld in the court martial process within established military procedures and law.

The statement issued by the Defence Information Spokesperson said; “The DHQ wishes to assure the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

“The Military court-martial process, though meticulous, ensures fairness, equal opportunity, and justice in accordance with established military procedures and the law.

“In response to this allegation, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has directed an immediate investigation into the matter. The outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”

Meanwhile, the DHQ has pleaded with the general public to always exercise caution and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information while the investigation is ongoing.

It also assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces are committed to ensuring a speedy and transparent investigation process in order to resolve the case.
