Dignitaries Unveil Magnus Oku Books And Arts Fiesta June 14

With series of events slated for Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, Lagos, and Calabar, among other locations nationwide, the stage is now set for the unveiling of Magnus Oku Books and Arts Fiesta from Friday, 14th June 2024.
According to the organisers, the fiesta is meant to launch the latest literary masterpieces from Nollywood producer and author, Magnus Oku, whose works intricately capture the essence of African symbolism and storytelling.
It will feature his new books and new edition of “THE AFRICAN SYMBOLS,” allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of African narratives.
Packaged as a monumental tribute to African literature, creativity, and cultural heritage, the Fiesta will holds as follows; Abuja on 14th June 2024, at Cyprian Ekwensi Arts and Culture Centre, Area 10; Lagos on 21st June 2024, at Freedom Park, Lagos Island; and Calabar on 28th June 2024, at Cultural Centre Main Bowl
Tagged ‘Celebrating African Narratives’, the Fiesta, aside showcasing Oku’s literary contributions, will highlight diverse range of inventive expressions with young people from across Nigeria performing artistic displays and interpretations of poems from “THE AFRICAN SYMBOLS”, as well as providing unique insights into African culture and identity.
Further describing it as a multifaceted celebration, featuring not only literature but also music, dance, and thought-provoking discussions, the organisers said vibrant performances and engaging activities that underscore enduring legacies of African culture would be on display.
Speaking on his inspiration, Oku said; “I was inspired to organize the Magnus Oku Books and Arts Fiesta by a deep passion for African literature and culture. Our rich heritage and diverse stories deserve a platform where they can be celebrated and shared.
“By bringing together artists, writers, and performers, we aim to create an environment that fosters appreciation, understanding, and pride in our cultural and literary achievements.”
Further highlighting the roles of schools and students as participants and the heart of the fiesta, the documentary producer said; “I envision them actively participating through performances, readings, and discussions.
“This engagement offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in African literature and culture, enhancing their knowledge and appreciation.
“Additionally, it encourages creativity, critical thinking, and a sense of identity and pride in their heritage.”
For the acclaimed author and filmmaker, the event will also serve as a vital platform for promoting and preserving African culture and heritage by showcasing traditional and contemporary artistic expressions, adding; “Through performances, book reviews, and cultural speeches, we highlight the richness of African traditions and the evolving narrative of our societies.
“This celebration not only preserves these cultural elements but also inspires future generations to cherish and continue these practices”.
Expected at the event as Special Guests and Keynote Speakers are distinguished personalities, including General Martin-Luther Agwai, (rtd) (Sardaunan Jaba), Former Chief of Defence Staff, Nigeria, and Former Pro-Chancellor, University of Calabar; Otunba Segun Showunmi, Ph.D in Philosophy and Narratology; and Solomon Dalung, Former Minister of Youth and Sports
The guests list also has Minister of Sports, Senator Owan Enoh; Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation, Muhammad Bello Goronyo; Senator Ita Enang, Senator Gershom Bassey, Engr Olugbenga Ajayi, General J. Kwabe, Prof Jonathan Aremu, and Ambassador Bolus Lolo among others.
In addition to showcasing Magnus Oku’s literary contributions to nation building, there will be diverse range of artistic expressions with young creatives across Nigeria performing artistic displays and interpretations of poems from “THE AFRICAN SYMBOLS“; providing unique insights into African culture and identity as well as drama presentation from the book “MIND YOUR ENGLISH” by Magnus Oku.
In extending special invitations to secondary and tertiary institutions, the organisers said; “We encourage schools to send delegations of students to participate in this enriching cultural experience”, adding; “We invite literature and arts enthusiasts, volunteers, sponsors, and collaborators to join us in making this event a resounding success”.
