Disrespect: Bauchi Emirate Slams Rep Abdullahi With Indefinite Suspension
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Following what it described as “unbecoming behavior of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, who is also the traditional title holder of the Wakili Birni Bauchi, the Emirate Council has slammed him with an indefinite suspension.
Hon. Abdullahi’s suspension is contained in three paragraph letter with reference number BEC/ADM/20/VOL.X dated May 16, 2021 and signed by the Secretary of the Emirate Council, Mr. Nasiru Musa Maidala.
According to the letter written in Hausa, the suspension of Hon. Abdullahi became necessary considering some of his “unbecoming behavior” which amounted to disrespect to the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, District and Village Heads as well as other traditional title holders in the Emirate.
The letter specifically made reference to a situation that happened at the Government House on Sunday during the annual Sallah Hawan Daushe held to pay homage to the Governor by the Emir of Bauchi and all the traditional rulers in the Emirate.
The Emirate Council faulted his mode of dressing in the presence of the Emir, District and Village Heads as well as other traditional title holders which the Council viewed as a grave misconduct and disrespect to constituted authorities.
The suspension letter reads in part; “After a thorough deliberations by the Emirate Council on your actions which are disrespectful to the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, you are hereby suspended as the Wakilin Birnin Bauchi indefinitely until further notice”.
Attempts made to get the reaction of the suspended Abdullahi on the development failed as he refused to pick calls to his mobile number nor respond to SMS and WhatsApp chats.
Political event watchers said that the development is going to affect the lawmaker ahead of the 2023 elections.
