Doguwa Secures 5th Term, Floors NNPP’s Salisu
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Majority Leader, Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Alhasan Ado Doguwa, as the winner of the Doguwa and Tudunwada Federal Constituency re-run election conducted on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Sani Ibrahim, who announced results of the supplementary polls held across eight wards in Tudunwada local government, said Doguwa amassed 41,573 votes to emerge the winner.
His closest rival and candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Yushau Salisu polled a total of 34,831 votes to place second in the race.
The Electoral umpire had declared the February election inconclusive in the constituency due to incidents of violence and overvoting.
Additionally, the Returning Officer for the February 25 National Assembly poll, Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, had reported that he announced the result under duress. This was after he had initially declared Doguwa the winner but INEC subsequently voided the process.
Doguwa will be returning to the lower legislative House for a record fifth term and many are already tipping him among the top contenders for the Speakership position
