A Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta has thrown out a suit instituted by one of the governorship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ogun State, Mr. Jimi Lawal.
Lawal in a writ of mandamus in Suit No: FHC/AB/CS/222/2022, had prayed the Court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant him recognition as the bana fide candidate of the PDP for the 2023 governorship election in Ogun State.
Lawal suit followed what the PDP described and declared as “an illegal” primary election conducted by his camp and purportedly declared winner.
Lawal held a primary in spite of the fact that the national headquarters of the PDP had pending appeal against the judgment of a High Court that nullified all Party’s primaries and ordered for fresh ones within 14 days.
Lawal was subsequently expelled from the PDP following what the Party leadership described as “disobedience and carrying out illegality”.
Jimi Lawal, who was accused of conducting an illegal primary quickly filed a suit at the Federal High Court seeking an order of the Court for his name be published by INEC as the PDP candidate for Ogun State.
The Court accordingly struck out the suit filed by Taiwo Olabode Idris and others against INEC, PDP and Ladi Adebutu as respondents for lacking merit.
