Former Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has formally acknowledged Governor Simi Fubara as the present political leader of the state.

Odili, who is seen as the father of modern Rivers State, affirmed the status of Fubara on Thursday at the commissioning of a Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Ndoni, located in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.

Dr Odili said; “Our people said I should tell you that you are the political leader of Rivers State. Rivers people say where you go, they will go with you; where you stand, they will stand with you. Don’t look back, stay focused, knowing that your people are behind you.”

“Thanks for standing up to defend the interest of all Rivers people. We are proud of you. Politics is over, it is now time for governance.

“You have hit the ground running. Your government is aligning correctly with President Tinubu’s government, especially in the area of education, agriculture and now health sector.

“Our people said I should tell you to stand with the President and align with his positive policies and link the people of Rivers State with the centre,” Odili said.

The former governor of Rivers State said that his decision to initiate the construction of the health centre stemmed from the observation that there had been no health facility in the Ndoni district for the past three years.

While commissioning the health centre, Governor Fubara commended Dr Odili for embarking and completing such a project that will be of great benefit to the people of Ndoni community.

Fubara said: “It is an honour to be part of this historic event. Dr. Peter Odili is a private man who has returned what God has done to him. He used his resources and not government’s resources to build such facility for his people of Ndoni.”

Earlier in his welcome remarks, a community leader, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), said the event showed that it will take a public-private synergy to revamp the health sector, especially in the rural areas.

Enebeli particularly expressed the appreciation of the Ndoni community to Fubara for his visit and gratitude to the governor for appointing Dr Adaeze Oreh, a native of the community, as the State’s Commissioner for Health.
