Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have successfully arrested a dreaded terrorist leader, Abubakar Abba, popularly known as Mamuda.
Niger State Governor, Hon Mohammed Umaru Bago, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, said that the dreaded Abba was captured in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance.
Mamuda, who is described as a dreaded bandit leader, was alleged to have terrorised parts of Kwara and Niger States, specifically the Kainji axis, where he was believed to have masterminded numerous attacks, kidnappings, and brutal killings.
A security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, said that investigations so far revealed that Mamuda was a member of the late Abubakar Shekau-led faction of Boko Haram before relocating to the North West, where he entrenched himself in banditry.
A dependable source within the security circle said the arrest of Mamuda was based on the outcome of sustained intelligence operations targeting high-profile criminal elements across the region.
Forefront News gathered that Mamuda, who is presently in an undisclosed custody is helping in investigations into his vast network and operational modus operandi.
