DSS Files Charges Against Two Captured Ansaru Commanders, Abu Baraa and Mahmuda

The Department of State Services (DSS), has filed multiple charges against two high-ranking commanders of the Ansaru terrorist group.

The two deadly commanders are Abu Baraa and Mahmuda, who were recently captured by Nigerian security forces in a covert operation.

The suspects, it was gathered are expected to be arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja in the coming days.

Ansaru, an arm of al-Qaeda in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in Nigeria with the objective of expelling secular and foreign influences from Nigeria and replace it with a Salafi-Islamist state.

The charges against the suspects included leading the Ansaru terrorist group and financing terrorist activities in Nigeria.

Baraa and Mahmuda are also accused of recruiting members for the terrorist group as well as coordinated violent attacks in Nigeria.

Security sources told Forefront News that the DSS has expedited investigations towards ensuring speedy prosecution, as well as ensuring justice, and human rights protection and emphasising professionalism.
