Ebonyi APC Zones Senatorial Seat Vacated By Umahi To Onicha LGA
…Upstages the aspiration of minister’s junior brother
The Ebonyi State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 nailed the senatorial ambition of Mr. Austin Umahi, the junior brother of the Minister of Works and Housing and former governor of the State, Mr. David Umahi.
The Party pointedly declared that the vacant Ebonyi South Senatorial position has been zoned to Onicha Local Government Area of the State thereby dashing the hope of Austin Umahi from contesting.
Mr. Austin Umahi had on Monday, December 25, 2023 declared his interest to contest for the vacant Senate position dumped by his elder brother for a ministerial portfolio.
But, the leadership of the APC in Ebonyi State rose from a meeting on Tuesday declaring that its resolve and decision to zone the vacant Ebonyi South senate position to Onicha Local Government Area was in line with equity, justice and fairness in the distribution of political positions in the State as agreed and approved by the leader of the Party in the State, who is Governor of the State.
These were contained in a communique issued after the meeting of the SWC of the APC in Ebonyi State which was signed by Chief Stanley Okoro, State Chairman of the APC in which the Party stated that the position resigned by Senator David Nweze Umahi belongs to APC, Ebonyi South Senatorial District.
The Ebonyi State APC leadership explained that going by the current distribution of political positions in Ebonyi South Zone, it is only Onicha Local Government Area that has no political position unlike the other LGAs within the Zone.
It gave the tabulation of the distribution of political positions in the zone to include; Afikpo North LGA—Deputy Governor and House of Representatives, Edda LGA— APC State Party Chairman, Ivo LGA — House of Representatives, Ohaozara LGA— Minister of Works, INEC REC, SSA to Mr President, DG FHA, RAMFAC Secretary, Vice Chancellor of King David University, Uburu, CMD of King David University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, Ebonyi State SSG, Ebonyi State Chief Judge while Onicha LGA has none.
The communique further stated; “The leader of the APC, Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, having exemplified himself in leadership embodied in equity, justice and fairness and such leadership prowess worth’s following and emulation.
“It is in the interest of justice, equity and fairness as envisaged by the leader of our great Party that the vacant seat of Ebonyi South Senatorial District be zoned to Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State.
The State Working Committee (SWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State is in total alignment with the decisions of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in ensuring that equity, justice and fairness is the cornerstone of this administrative principles.
“The State Working Committee (SWC) of APC, Ebonyi State is in tandem with the leader’s philosophy in ensuring peace and peaceful coexistence in all nooks and crannies in Ebonyi State.
“That in the interest of justice, equity and fairness characterized in Rt Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s APC led government, the vacant Ebonyi South Senatorial position be zoned to Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State.
“That the State Working Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State is in unalloyed support and solidarity with the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State in all his people-oriented decisions in ensuring equity and justice prevail in all spheres of Ebonyi,” it stated.
