BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the All Progressives Congress (APC) members must leave no stone unturned in sweeping away Governor Godwin Obaseki and his anointed candidate from the Edo State Government House come the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Consequently, the country’s ruling Party maintained that working hard to snatch Edo State from the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a task that must be done convincingly with all the powers at its disposal
Senator Akpabio, who spoke at the South-South APC meeting held in Calabar, Cross River capital, on Sunday, said; “For those of you from Edo state and any part of the South-South region, the election that is coming up in September 2024, you all must head towards Edo both in prayers and everything we have because we are going to defeat Obaseki.”
Assuring the APC gubernatorial flag-bearer in the Edo race, Senator Monday Okpebholo, that the party was focused on ensuring his victory at the polls, the Senate President said; “Our brother, Senator Monday, you’re not just the hope of Edo but the hope of the APC in the South-South zone. We will support you to succeed.”
He said victory in Edo State is a foregone conclusion because a second APC governor in the South-South region is beckoning, adding; “Your Excellency Governor Otu, your days of loneliness are over. Today, we have a governor in Cross River state who is showing the direction in terms of performance.
“It’s not about talk, it’s about what you can do. The people will only judge you by what you put on the ground.”
Senator Akpabio, while thanking Governor Otu for shouldering the enormous financial burden of hosting a meeting of that magnitude, said he should be consoled by the bright prospects of the APC making greater inroads into the Niger Delta region with all eyes on Edo State.
Also, the Senate President hinted at having extracted firm commitment from the President to the effect that in the next two weeks the second phase of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway would begin in Cross River state
Aligning with the Senate President’s position on APC capturing Edo State come the September polls, the National Vice Chairman of APC, South-South geo-political zone, Chief Victor Gaidom said the Party will adopt all available political strategies at its disposal to reclaim power in Edo State.
He charged all APC State Chairmen in the zone to align with the e-membership registration guidelines as the Party can not afford to be analogue in driving its programmes and activities.
The APC chieftain explained that the party must brace up for modern realities with members they thinking and strategizing ahead of their opponents at all times to remain relevant in the nation’s political space in the coming years.
