She said the date has been so designated to further drive grassroots sports development as the country seeks to work hard at being competitive and reclaiming its lost glory in the sporting world.

The Commissioner, who represented Governor Bassey Otu at the event, also announced that the State government has approved that a skating competition be held annually in the state as part of activities in its Tourism Calendar.

According to Mrs Atsu, the Governor Otu-led administration was committed to supporting any positive venture that would give Cross River its pride of place in both the sporting and tourism world

The NISF President, who thrilled participants and dignitaries with his mastery of several languages, also said the event aimed at providing job opportunities for youths and appealed to the state government to ensure that in subsequent championships, athletes from the state are massively sensitized.

He said creating awareness about the sport would enable the State teeming youth to actively participate in future competition knowing the benefits derivable from engaging in such international sporting event.

The International Skating Championship (ISC) was organized by SHRD Sports Management in collaboration with Nigeria Inline Skating NLINE SKATING Federation (NISF) and the Cross River State Sports Commission.
