BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Justice Yunusa Musa-led three-man Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Benin on Wednesday reserved judgment in the four remaining petitions brought before it.

In reserving its judgment after the adoption of final written addresses by the respective counsels, the Tribunal said dates would be communicated to the parties.

Among the four petitions filed at the Tribunal are those by Action Democratic Party (ADP) and its governorship candidate, Iboi Emmanuel; as well as the Action Peoples Party (APP).

Others include the governorship candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Tracy Agol, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

They are all challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration of Governor Godwin Obaseki as the winner of the September 19, 2020 Governorship election in the South South state.

In a unanimous ruling on December 11, 2020, the Tribunal had dismissed the petition by Action Alliance (AA) and its governorship candidate, Ukonga Onaivi, against Governor Obaseki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and INEC, for failing to file pre-hearing notice.

However, the petitioners’ counsel request that the Tribunal allow their clients’ petitions and grant the reliefs sought was rejected.
