COVID-19: NCDC Confirms 8 Deaths, 1,131 New Infections

BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday confirmed eight deaths and 1,131 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.
With the latest development, Nigeria’s COVID-19 total fatality has now risen to 1,702 deaths, just as the tally of infections nationwide is currently put at 142,578 cases.
The NCDC also disclosed on its official Twitter handle that; “Our discharges today include 773 community recoveries in Lagos State and 66 community recoveries in Imo State managed in line with guidelines.”
The disease outfit wrote on its website that; “On the 10th of February 2021, 1131 new confirmed cases and 8 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 142,578 cases have been confirmed, 116,947 cases have been discharged and 1,702 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)”
It explained that among the 1,131 new cases reported from 22 states of the federation, Lagos came up with (297) cases, FCT – (194), Kaduna – (83), Kano – (59), Oyo – (58), Taraba – (53), Imo – (52), and Osun – (47).
Others are: Plateau – (45), Edo – (43), Akwa Ibom – (42), Rivers – (42), Ogun – (29), Kwara – (24), Benue – (21), Nasarawa – (16), Ekiti – (7), Bauchi – (6), Delta – (6), Bayelsa – (4), Sokoto – (2), and Gombe – (1)
On its ongoing engagements with sub-national governments, the NCDC Director General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu and his team played host to officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration in Abuja.
Ihekweazu tweeted thus; “DG @Chikwe_I received a team from @OfficialFCTA, led by the Acting Secretary of Health & Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Kawu on a courtesy visit to the NCDC HQ.
“We remain committed to providing necessary support to all States to strengthen health security. #StrongerTogether”
