BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The battle over the control of the political landscape of Edo witnessed another ugly side on Saturday as suspected thugs attacked Governor Godwin Obaseki in Oshiomhole’s House.

Also caught in the cross fire of the attack is the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and the Chancellor of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola.

The trio however escaped unhurt in spite of the hurling of stones at the vehicle of the governor which was suspected to be their main target.

The attack allegedly took place at the residence of the former Governor of Edo State and current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki and the other invited guests had attended the maiden convocation ceremony of the Edo University, Iyahmo in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was gathered that the Oba of Lagos and Governor Obaseki had gone to pay a personal visit on Oshiomhole at his house in honour of an invitation extended to them by the National Chairman of the APC for a launch after the ceremony at the university.

It was gathered that one Romeo, a cousin to Oshiomhole led the thugs ostensibly to attack Obaseki but the Oba of Lagos and other guests were caught in the attack.

However, the security guards of the governor quickly took position and prevented what would have possibly turn out to be a blood bath in which several vehicles were smashed by the thugs.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie confirmed the incident, adding however that his principal and others escaped without injuries.
