Edo: Terminate All Court Actions Before Any Peace Move – PDP Leaders Tell Shaibu, Aziegbemi

The crisis between Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his deputy, Hon. Philip Shaibu has taken a new dimension as the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Edo North, have described the moves by the chairman of the Party, Hon Anthony Aziegbemi towards resolving the crisis as premature.

The Edo North PDP leaders pointedly said that any talk about peace at this time would be begging the question and indeed laughable since the principal character in the entire episode being the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu is pursuing and sustaining legal battles against his principal, Governor Obaseki, who is the leader of the party.

They therefore rejected the peace moves being initiated by State chairman of the PDP in the State and also cautioned him against initiating actions that would further complicate the situation.

Addressing journalists on behalf of Edo North PDP Leaders, a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, noted that the ill-conceived actions of Shaibu were too deep to be treated with levity and in periphery.

Adjoto said that while the Edo North PDP leaders were not opposed to any peace moves but, they would however not be party to any cosmetic approach to resolving issues by merely scratching the surface.

In the words of Adjoto; “Withdrawal of all court actions must precede any peace move, else it will be like pouring water inside a basket.

“The depth of heinous political machinations being masterminded by Shaibu must be addressed holistically to avoid political volcano in the nearest future.

“Any resolution must commence from Edo North after the withdrawal of the court case and the deputy governor should be humble enough to initiate that.

“We need to hear from him the reasons behind his ugly power-play which has become a slant on the Afemai people,” he said.

Adjoto also advised the party leadership against falling into the sharp trap wired by Shaibu to dim the chances of the PDP prior to the 2024 governorship election in the state.

He further said; “Shaibu’s surreptitious power mongering has drenched the state with one political crisis to another; behind the curtain, he initiated the Oshiomhole/Ize-Iyamu crisis in 2014, Odubu/Oshiomhole crisis in 2015, Obaseki/ Oshiomhole crisis, the G-14 lawmakers, Obaseki/Wike crisis, Orbih/Obaseki crisis, Legacy PDP quagmire, and many others all in a bid of sustaining relevance.

“As such, the state chairman should not be hoodwinked into meddling in issues that will endanger the party.

“Recently, the unspeakable happened when the deputy governor threatened to slap the SSG at a meeting; imagine such arrogance!”

Adjoto assured of the readiness of Edo North PDP leaders to stand with Governor Obaseki at every cost to ensure that he completes his tenure as required by law.
