…Urges UK govt. to give benefit of doubt to Ekweremadu
The Ebonyi State Government on Sunday said that following the arrest and detention of Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife by the United Kingdom Metropolitan Police, it is already reaching out to the family of David Okemini Ukpo, whose information orchestrated the criminal charge incidented against former Deputy Senate President.
It therefore appealed to the United Kingdom Government to give former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife the benefit of the doubt of the case they are being detained. This is as the State Government enjoined the public especially those with shades of opinions and surge of anxieties to remain calm with the hope to see light at the end of the tunnel.
The Ebonyi State Government particularly said that it stands with Senator Ekweremadu at his trial moment and expressed the hope that the truth and nothing but the truth shall guide the outcome of the matter.
It also said that it is following up the turn of events and twists that followed the medical intention of Senator Ekweremadu over the health condition of his daughter Miss Sonia Ekweremadu and the circumstances that led to his detention and that of his wife in the United Kingdom.
The State Government in a statement by its Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Hon. Orji Uchenna Orji, urged the UK Government to act progressively, meticulously, and critically look at the intention (Mens rea) and the minds of the detained family.
