The immediate Past Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has lost his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
Hajiya Umma’s grandson, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, announced her passage in a Facebook post on Friday, 27th March 2026.
The post stated thus: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my Grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai who passed away a few hours ago.”
The post noted that the deceased was the biological mother of Mallam El-Rufai and prayed for the repose of her soul.

It further said: “We are grateful for the life she lived and may Allah SWT bless her gentle soul. May He bless the soul of the parents we have lost. On behalf of our family, we seek your prayers. Thank you.”
However, details surrounding her passage were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report with the family and the former governor yet to release any official statement concerning the demise of their matriarch.
Hajiya Umma El-Rufai’s passage comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving her son, Mallam El-Rufai. According to a family source, she died on Friday in Cairo, the Egyptian capital, where she had been living with her son, who completed two terms as Kaduna state governor in 2023. She left behind children, grandchildren and great-grand children.
